Season 1 Episode 4 CONDUIT
Originally Aired October 1, 1993
Written by Alex Gansa & Howard Gordon
Directed by Daniel Sackheim

WIKI – As Section Chief Scott Blevins (Charles Cioffi) expresses his concern with the direction of the X-Files department, Mulder becomes obsessed with solving a case that closely parallels an encounter he experienced as a child, which dealt with alien abduction and an exploration of Mulder’s determination to find his sister, Samantha Mulder (Vanessa Morley). Also guest stars Don Gibb.

IMDB – Mulder becomes obsessed with solving a case that closely parallels an “encounter” he experienced as a child.

MORE FROM DUCHOVNIACS – Mommy Morris is played by Carrie Snodgrass, who starred in one of my favorite Clint Eastwood Westerns, PALE FACE. Also Michael Cavanagh, also a veteran of a few Eastwood flicks, and one of the busiest working character men in Hollywood – including the movie, RED DRAGON – whose plot mirrors the current TV show timeline. One of the first where Mulder deals with the loss of his sister, we see a huge emotional range form David Duchovny.

Season 1 Episode 5 Jersey Devil
Originally Aired October 8, 1993
Written by Chris Carter
Directed by Joe Napolitano

WIKI – The murder of a homeless man which is very similar in detail to a murder committed in 1947 leads Mulder and Scully to the legendary man-beast the Jersey Devil (Claire Stansfield) roaming in the forests surrounding Atlantic City. Also guest stars Wayne Tippit, Gregory Sierra, Jill Teed, Andrew Airlie, Bill Dow, and David Lewis.

IMDB – Mulder and Scully track a legendary creature that has roamed the New Jersey countryside for over 40 years.

MORE FROM DUCHOVNIACS – The first time Chris Carter tries to separate Mulder and Scully. I wonder if this was an attempt to take the show in a very poorly chosen 1980s direction. Lets see more personal lives sit-com style? Thankfully the concept is ditched by end of the episode. While funny to see this once, could have killed the show.

Season 1 Episode 6 SHADOWS
Originally Aired October 22, 1993
Written by Glen Morgan & James Wong
Directed by Michael Katleman

WIKI – When an unseen force commits several murders where a young woman is present, Mulder suspects that it is the spirit of the woman’s former boss who was believed to have committed suicide but was actually murdered and he is protecting her from his business partner. Guest starring Barry Primus and Lisa Waltz

IMDB – Mulder and Scully investigate the deaths of two men believed to have been killed by a powerful psychokinetic force.

MORE FROM DUCHOVNIACS – As I say on twitter and on the podcast, Mulder and Scully are often called in as experts when it is convenient, as seen in this episode, SQUEEZE and the upcoming GHOST IN THE MACHINE. But the above average skills of Mulder and Scully do the end run circle around those trying to control them – as they almost always do.

FROM WIKI – Mulder and Scully investigate a series of murders where there appears to be no tangible method for the murderer’s entrance and escape. Eugene Victor Tooms (Doug Hutchison), a seemingly normal janitor, is suspected by Mulder to be a mutant who kills his victims and extracts their livers in order to prolong his existence. Also guest stars Donal Logue and Henry Beckman.
